Teaching Aid Coordinator and Editor for KAPE Social Enterprise
CONTEXT
A lack of teaching aids has been identified as a key challenge to improving the quality of education in Cambodia. Kampuchean Action for Primary Education (KAPE) is a local NGO working in the educational sector and are seeking to address this problem by launching a social enterprise that will publish a wide range of teaching aids to market and distribute to primary and secondary schools across Cambodia.
Before the launch in February 2012, the social enterprise will require a teaching aid coordinator and editor to oversee the design, editing and proof-reading of the product line.
This is a busy role broadly responsible for:
- Identifying the market and level of demand for a range of teaching aids;
- Working with teachers and KAPE staff to commission and develop new products;
- Developing relationships with NGOs, schools and other publishers to support product development and distribution;
- Monitoring performance of the social enterprise in terms of customer satisfaction with product line.
Before the launch the successful candidate will work together with the publishing manager and KAPE staff to fulfil this role. Once the social enterprise is launched, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing the product line, and working with the publishing manager to market and distribute effectively. They will be answerable to the Board of the social enterprise, which will include the KAPE leadership.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
The successful candidate will have:
- A teaching degree and at least five years experience teaching in schools
- Experience and strong interest in developing new teaching aids and improving teaching methodology
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Good English language skills
DESIRABLE SKILLS
It will be helpful for the successful candidate to have:
- Training in desktop publishing, graphics, and layout
- Experience of the publishing and printing industry
- Experience of the not-for-profit sector
LOCATION
KAPE is located in Kampong Cham province, and we envisage that this is also where the social enterprise will be based. However, depending on the candidate it may be possible to base this role in Phnom Penh.
REMUNERATION
The salary will be between $350 and $500 a month depending on the prior experience of the applicant and location, plus benefits.
