Kampuchean Action for Primary Education (KAPE) is a local NGO working in the educational sector and are seeking to address this problem by launching a social enterprise that will publish a wide range of teaching aids to market and distribute to primary and secondary schools across Cambodia.

1st National Book Fair 2011

The National Library of Cambodia is pleased to announce the inaugural National Book Fair to be held over 3 days at the National Library. The National Book Fair will encompass a combined event with the French Cultural Center and French Embassy and include the Phnom Penh Post exhibition, author participation and reading forums. It will involve story-teller, writers and publishers. With 3 days of events it is an opportunity to showcase publishing, reading for learning and reading for fun to all Cambodia.

Suspended Book on Vietnamese Slang Released on Amazon

After being withdrawn from local bookstores last month for its alleged racy content and possibly offensive language, a comedic picture book depicting local youth slang is having its e-version released internationally.

Under a publishing transfer between Vietnam-based Nha Nam and Fine Arts Publishing Houses and California-based Indochine Media Inc, the ebook of Sat thu dau mung mu (Killer with a soft head) is being sold on Amazon for US$7.99.

In an interview with VTC News on Nov 8, Vu Hoang Giang, vice director of Nha Nam, said that the book’s publishing in the overseas market was planned and signed with the foreign partner before it was officially released in Vietnam. As a result, it is not illegal to release the book abroad.

Barbara Grier Dies at 78; Co-founder of Lesbian Publishing House

Barbara Grier, a pathbreaking publisher who challenged mainstream prejudices to make literature by and about lesbians widely available in the United States and abroad, has died. She was 78.

Grier, a founder of Naiad Press, died of lung cancer Thursday in Tallahassee, Fla., said her longtime partner, Donna McBride.

Grier and McBride launched Naiad Press in 1973 with a $2,000 loan and built it into a $1-million business. By the time it folded in 2003, it had published more than 500 titles by authors such as Rita Mae Brown, Katherine V. Forrest, Jane Rule and Sheila Ortiz Taylor.
