Hatton: Publishing Without a Publisher a Novel Idea
Rejection is a sad fact of life. For writers seeking to get a book published, it's more than that. It's a rite of passage.
Stephen King received so many rejections for his first novel, "Carrie," that he papered his bedroom with them. He once even tossed the manuscript into a garbage can, which was retrieved by his wife who convinced him to finish it. One rejection letter read: "We are not interested in science fiction which deals with negative utopias. They do not sell."
Wrong. "Carrie" catapulted King into the ranks of the most prolific and successful authors of all time, with total book sales eclipsing more than 350 million.
